Our Canada: Port Hood, N.S.
I am so honoured to write about my seaside community of Port Hood, Cape Breton,
Nova Scotia. I live in one of the most
beautiful and scenic areas in Eastern Canada.
From our four beautiful sandy beaches, which overlook Port Hood and Henry Island, to the friendliest people you will ever meet, Port Hood is a wonderful place to live and raise your family. Summer is sunny and fun, filled with music, festivals and delicious food. In winter we are a bustling hockey town. I invite and encourage you to come and see what you are missing!
Come stay in Port Hood, where you can sample our delicious seafood during our Annual Lobster Picnic, held the second Saturday of July. Hop on Gillis Lobster Tours, where you can literally smell the salt in the water, as local fishermen show you how to haul a lobster trap and band the lobster's claws. Take in our week-long annual Chestico Days Festival where you will experience a week of music, culture and seafood.
Experience our unique Boat Parade, featuring 100-plus boats as they tour our scenic harbour. End the perfect week by lying on the beach as the fireworks explode over the waters of Port Hood Harbour.
Hike the Celtic Shores Coastal Trail – just a short drive down the road brings you to the world-famous Cabot Links and breath-taking Cabot Cliffs golf courses. There's so much to do, it's a truly magical experience that will leave you wanting to return again and again.
Where can you experience delicious down- home cooking as well as fresh seafood? Start your morning with a delicious breakfast at Sandeannie's Bakery and Tea Room.
Grab a beer and steak at the Admiral Tavern and Lounge or get in the long line for Marie's delicious burgers at the D&M Burger Bus, known to locals as "The Bus." Sit on the patio at my friend Trish's Clove Hitch Bar & Bistro to watch the sun set and enjoy the seafood linguine -- it's always a favourite. Oh heck, why not just try a bit at everything!
MASTERCHEF CANADA Season 2 airs Sundays at 7 p.m. ET/ 8 p.m. CT on CTV.
