Here are three reasons why I'm proud of my community, Peterborough, Ont.
1. It's a caring, connected community.
The first thing that struck me about Peterborough's culture was the kindness of the people who live here. They take care of one another. They give with their time, talents and treasures and their generosity has touched the lives of many in our city and around the world. This sense of community is often ranked as one of the best things about living in Peterborough. In fact, it has even penetrated Twitter, with Peterborough boasting one of the most cohesive online communities in Canada.
2. Peterborough -- It's a natural fit.
Imagine a city that offers the amenities of a large urban centre, with the look and feel of cottage country living. That's Peterborough. Peterborough has a proud history of nurturing world-class athletes. On any given Thursday night, hockey and lacrosse enthusiasts can count on The Peterborough Petes or the Peterborough Lakers to bring together thousands of fans under the Memorial Centre roof.
We have a lot to offer nature lovers. The Silver Bean is a cafe on the water in the heart of downtown, and in the spring and summer, it is the place to be. Ask them about renting a canoe or a paddle boat and any questions about what's good in Peterborough. For those seeking more solitude, our trails along Jackson Park and the Riverview Zoo are free and awe-inspiring.
