Our Canada: Paradise, N.L.
Newfoundland's points of pride are the amazing local food scene, fantastic creative chefs, and beautiful hiking grounds through stunning scenery, as well as the smell of the ocean, huge whales, icebergs, great local
beers, spectacular waves, and storms. To me, this all encompasses what the beautiful Rock is all about.
When visiting Paradise and Conception Bay N.L., you have to check out Topsail Beach and Topsail Bluff -- both beautiful places. There are some excellent trails through the communities, such as Manuels River, which is a great way to spend an afternoon exploring the surrounding area.
When visiting "da rock," people should take in some of the great East Coast Trail, which includes fantastic hiking and breathtaking views. Depending on the time of year, you will see incredible nature and wildlife. An early evening stroll through historic St. John's, with a few stops to keep your whistle wet, is always a fantastic adventure and you are bound to come across some great local music.
Best spots to eat in Newfoundland... where to start? Upscale yet comfortable, an absolutely amazing culinary experience is the much-raved about Raymonds Restaurant, featuring the brilliant Jeremy Charles in St. John's. In the Quidi Vidi gut of St. John's, the ever-comforting and satisfying Mallard Cottage is run by Todd Perrin, where the food is actually off the charts. And the b est fish and chips, hands down, can be found in Chafe's Landing in the stunning Petty Harbour.
And lastly, about four hours outside St. John's is the beautiful and fully sustainable Bonavista Social Club, which sits on top of the picturesque setting. Try a moose burger with partridge berry ketchup, along with bread made in their wood-burning oven. You will never want to leave.
Come visit us in Newfoundland for an unforgettable experience. The people, food and the scenery will blow you away!
MASTERCHEF CANADA Season 2 airs on Sundays at 7 p.m. ET/ 8 p.m. CT on CTV.
