Via The Consumerist blog: A family eating out in Washington state got a discount off their bill for their kids' good behaviour. Clearly labelled: WELL BEHAVED KIDS.
Really? I mean...I'm into discounts, for sure and certain. But...something about this rubs me the wrong way. I think it's the sense that it's somehow okay to judge parents like this. Would you give a discount to CEOs who stay off their cellphones? To seniors who don't leave their walkers in the entryway? To couples on Valentine's Day that don't end up having a fight over dessert?
What is it about parents taking their kids out to a public place to feed them that lets people think they have the right to start filling out a scorecard?
Yes, I agree, children in restaurants need to be parented. They may occasionally raise their voices or drop food on the floor, and parents need to be on top of that and choose the right restaurants at the right time whenever possible. But seriously: I have come for a meal, not as a part of Top Parent: Restaurant Edition.
What do you think?
