Entertaining and educational TV for children – at your fingers tips! Guest post by Kristen Oelschlagel   Pancake Manor is the latest sensation in children’s television and music – and it’s Canadian! Offering a mix of pop music, puppets, education and plain old fun, this online children’s series has it all. Based out of Victoria, BC, the YouTube channel Pancake Manor is the creative brainchild of Billy Reid and Reb Stevenson in 2011. The series already boasts over 33 million views. I was introduced to the show by an editor here at Canadian Living, and with such an intriguing name (who doesn’t love pancakes?) I had to check it out. After watching a few — well, okay, more than a few — of the YouTube videos, it’s easy to tell why the show has become so popular among both kids and adults. Growing up in the 90s, I was raised watching Arthur, Magic School Bus, and an all-time favourite of mine: Country Mouse and City Mouse. I'd never watched anything quite like Pancake Manor. In keeping with many classic kids series, such as the Muppets, the  show features two puppets: Zach and Reggie. To make it appeal to 21st century kids, the songs have a pop music vibe and it’s all based online – and all of the videos are under three minutes! Since its first episode, Pancake Manor has grown to sell CDs and DVDs. If your child really loves the shows, you can even get the two main characters, Zach and Reggie, to put together a personalized birthday greeting.
