Kourtney Kardashian avoids mom guilt. Hurray?

Apparently Kourtney Kardashian avoids mom guilt by working out at home. Why did I click? It was the phrase "mom guilt." Because every time that phrase appears on a news story without any mention of "dad guilt" or "parent guilt" I have to see what it is we moms, specifically, are supposed to feel guilty about this time. I am not saying that I am someone who does not feel mom guilt or have moments in the middle of the night --  at 7:40 a.m. on Monday -- when I really, truly worry that my choices are messing up my kids in some awful way. But let's look at this story. This time, it's working out -- not working, working out -- outside of the house that is supposed to make you feel guilty. If you do that, you might be placing more emphasis on your appearance (I'm not sure when health comes into the equation) than on your kids. So Kourtney Kardashian is raising the bar on parenting by making sure that her trainer comes to her house and that she is not too obsessed with her looks. I will now publicly confess that I avoid mom guilt by involving my toddler in the selection of the finest locally sourced most nutritious fare available at the local grocery store and I even tell him what the Swiss chard is as I reach past it for the pre-washed baby carrots and I might not even have polish on my toenails at the very same time. In other words: Let's get real. If I were a celebrity mom with money to spend on nannies and so on and so forth, I would be out at the gym, or maybe out running on some incredibly beautiful beach, rather than at home. Because getting out of the house to run, alone, with a podcast that is not yelling at me every few minutes to "throw ball, mommy!" is about the best motivating factor I have found for exercise. In my life. Ever. (If you don't have a spouse that practically forces you out the door like I do, hey we've got 7 ideas for working fitness into motherhood too. So no feeling guilty about that either!) And until someone writes an article about dad guilt for leaving one's kids with a loving and connected caregiver for an hour in order to promote heart health and stay strong and healthy, I am just going to have to keep doing it that way. What's something you do in your life for which you refuse to feel "mom guilt"
