Baby Naming Contest
Would you let complete strangers decide your baby's name in an online contest for $5000? Seems no one else would either. Last week, word got out about an expectant mom who was going to let her baby's name be decided through an online contest. This week, it was revealed
it was all a hoax. I suppose there are any number of things people might do for $5000, but most parents take naming their baby to heart, and it's quite a personal matter. So the idea of letting strangers decide on the Internet seems contrary to the whole process. Never mind that $5000 isn't that much money when you consider what a major decision you are giving up. Especially since you could end up with a baby named Blue Ivy, Bear Blu or Gooberhead. There's always the hope that people will choose genuinely good names, such as those found in the
most popular 100 Canadian baby names, but why would you ever leave that up to chance? Ultimately, whatever people choose to name their babies, I just hope they give it some real thought and recognize the responsibility of doing so. After all, naming your child is one of your first acts as parents to this baby. Make it a good one.
