Thanksgiving craft: Helpful hands place cards
Have your kids decorate the dinner table with personalized place card holders.
Make a pair of hands to hold a place card or something special, and invite your guests to show what they are thankful for this holiday. For an element of added fun, omit the name tags and let guests guess whose place is whose by the objects in each set of hands.
You need:
• Hand template
• Craft foam in desired colour
• Scrap card stock or construction paper
• Tacky glue
• Painter's tape or paper-clip
• Pencil, scissors and fine-tip markers
Take a look at a larger photo of the finished place card holder here.
To make:
1. For hands: Print hand template (see link above) and cut out. With pencil, trace template onto craft foam; cut out. Draw fingers with grey marker as shown.
2. Overlap right side of wrist over left side; affix with dab of glue. (Use painter's tape or paper-clip to hold in place while glue dries.) Hands should sit, balanced on table. Let dry.
3. Meanwhile, find or create something to place in the hands. Choose a photo or small object that represents something you’re thankful for. You could find something around the house, go for a hike to look for a natural treasure, or create something using craft supplies to show what you are thankful for.
4. Place special object in hands and arrange at dinner table.
5. For place cards (optional): From card stock, cut out 4 cm by 5 cm (1 1/2-inch by 2-inch) rectangle; label with name and place in hands.
