Hi friends, Whew, I woke up with a bad case of the Thursday grumps today! Sheesh. I tried all the tricks: changing my clothes (no dice), bribing myself with a trip to Starbucks (uh-uh), a good song on repeat, extra-loud (nope)...but it wasn't until I got to work and saw the birthday card that I made for my friend Lisa that a tiny little smile appeared on my lips. There's just something about bunting that makes me grin. This is the card that I mentioned yesterday – a last-minute craft that I whipped up while I waited for a pan of brownies to bake. I saw something similar on Tanis's blog a while ago, and the idea popped into my head as I stood at my desk and wondered just how rusty my calligraphy skills were (pretty rusty!). Here's what I did. I cut some triangles from some scraps of quilting fabric I had kept. They're about 3/4" high and 1/2" wide. I sketched my drawing on a 6 x 8" piece of cardstock (folded in half) so that I'd know where to line up the bunting. It took a couple of tries to get one that I liked. After playing around a bit with the order of the flags, I dabbed a tiny bit of glue on the bag of each flag to adhere it to the paper, and stuck on all the flags. That helps keep them in place for the next step, the sewing. I used a regular straight stitch to stitch the flags onto the card stock, then I outlined the flag pole and added a few more lines of stitching to give the illusion of movement. This is just a regular 14/90 needle – obviously, I'll change the needle before I sew on fabric again, since this one's been used on paper and gummed up with glue. Finally, I carefully trimmed loose thread ends and wrote my message inside. Golden. And it really only took about 20 minutes! Have fun!
