As the "mother" of two cats and a dog, I get a lot of pet-themed gifts. Recently, my beloved sister-in-law gave me a copy of Kaori Tsutaya's book Crafting with Cat Hair.

My SIL and I are both teetering on the verge of being crazy cat ladies, so it made us both laugh – after we paused for second to wonder if we shouldn't be stockpiling tumbleweeds of fur for some future crafternoon. But it turns out there are a lot of people out there who aren't joking about making things from cat – and dog – hair. 3 Pet Hair Crafts People Are Making

1. Knitted dog hair garments – Folks around the world are combing their fluffy dogs and spinning the fur into yarn. Anyone for a pair of Golden Retriever mittens? While you're at it, why not knit a sweater that makes you look just like your dog?
2. Felted cat fur beads – Not to be outdone by the dog people, cat lovers are brushing their fuzzy cats and using traditional wool-felting tools to make felted beads and other treasures.
3. Rolled cat fur cat toys – Like catnip, these ridiculously simple toys will drive your cat nuts.

I admit to being a little wary of pet hair crafting. But I guess it isn't that different from knitting with yarn made from alpaca, angora rabbit or even yak.
