Making and Doing in February

Hi friends, It's been a while since I posted a craft report...and given that I just had a four-day weekend, I've actually got a bit of crafting accomplished recently. Here's a peek. picture-15 This is the Valentine's Day gift that I sent to my sister. There wasn't much crafting involved in this one, but I did spend a good half hour browsing the button aisle at Fabricland. Sure, chocolates are great, but notions are better, don't you think? valentine (I saw something similar to this on the internet a long time ago (back in 2007, I think) – but the example I saw used a heart-shaped chocolate box. I can't find the original anywhere...anybody have any ideas?) This weekend I finally had a chance to tackle the February block for the Maple Leaf VQB. This block is for Marianne and uses the "Map of the States Block" tutorial from Oh! Fransson. feb-quilt-block The inner square is 9 inches square and the entire thing comes out to 15.5 inches square. It was an interesting tutorial that featured a novel way to make and use freezer paper templates. (And yes, Dad, the lines are supposed to be crooked!) To celebrate Valentine's Day I rented a bunch of romantic comedies and knitted happily away on the first sleeve of my February Lady Sweater. I was making good progress (and feeling confident about a February finish!) until I actually took my eyes off the screen and took a good look at the sweater. See anything funny here? sweater-stripes Sigh. After a lot of thought and some not-so-quiet complaining, I ripped the sleeve back and started again with a fresh ball of yarn. I don't like unravelling all that hard work, but there's no way I'm going to put in this much work for a sweater I'll never wear because it makes me look like a purple zebra! But it's not all sewing and knitting at my place these days. I also had a day to work from home, developing crafts for an upcoming issue... flutterby Spring really isn't that far away! You can see the results of that day's work in our May issue...which will be on newsstands in just six weeks. What are you making and doing these days? I'd love to know!
