These pretty flower-seed paper notes are easy to make and fun to give out as little gifts.

You need:
• 20 sheets recyclable paper (such as flyers or phone book pages)
• Food colouring (optional)
• Flower or herb seeds
• Flannel
• Sponge, paper or terry-cloth towel

Take a look at a larger image of the finished craft.

To make:
1. Tear paper into small one-inch (2.5 cm) pieces, or shred using shredder; place in sinkful of warm water for about 45 minutes; place enough of the wet paper in blender to come halfway up side. Repeat steps 1 through 5.

2. Blend, adding up to 1/2 cup (125 mL) of the warm water if necessary to make pulplike consistency. For coloured paper, add a few drops of food colouring.

3. Transfer mixture to larger container; stir in seeds. Pour mixture into sieve placed over bowl. Using hands, press to squeeze out excess water.

4. Pour mixture onto flannel, spreading to flatten thinly (the thinner the pulp is spread, the quicker the drying time).

5. Using a sponge, dab paper mixture to soak up excess water. When top is dry, flip over to let reverse side dry. Note: You can use a fan on low setting to speed up the drying process. Let dry completely.

6. Cut out paper into desired shape. Include specific planting instructions for the type of seed you are using in the notecard.

Note: Seed paper can be planted directly into ground or pot soil. Cover paper lightly with soil and pat down lightly. Place in a sunny spot with at least 4 hours of sunlight daily to germinate properly; keep moist for 4 to 6 weeks (many wildflowers are drought-tolerant once established, but must receive adequate water as they sprout).
