Designed by Sherry Clark.
Make your Christmas tree a real family tree with these easy, inexpensive ornaments. Use recycled jar lids and sewing-basket scraps - the only precious things you'll need are the photographs. Every year add updated decorations. As time goes by, they're sure to become sentimental favourites and a great source of "remember-when" reminiscences.
You need:
• Clean, dry jar lid
• Red, green and white acrylic paint
• Spray glue
• Goop
• 6 mm diameter cord and/or rickrack
• 3 mm cord or ribbon
• 12 mm wide ribbon
• Fine-tip gold or silver paint marker
To make:
1. Lightly sand each clean, dry jar lid; clean off dust. Brush on concealing coat of white acrylic paint, then 2 coats of red or green acrylic paint; let dry between coats. Centring image, position lid on photo and, with pencil, trace edge. Cut out photo circle, spray-glue back, then glue onto lid top.
2. With Goop, glue 6 mm diameter cord and/or rickrack around lid side and front (over cut edge of photo). From 3 mm cord or ribbon, cut 15 cm (6-in) length; fold in half to form loop and tie ends in overhand knot. Glue knot to top of ornament. From 12 mm wide ribbon, cut 25 cm (9-7/8-in) length; tie in bow. Glue to lid front over knot. On lid back, label name(s) and date with fine-tip gold or silver paint marker.
