Do you still use plastic bags?
I made the best discovery about a year ago, and because using this discovery has become such a habit I forgot to tell you about it sooner. Thankfully, someone in our
green living forum was talking about reusable bags and triggered this find to pop into my head. Trust me, you'll love it.
I found these awesome mesh produce sacs at
Grassroots, a Toronto-based store that specializes in environmentally-friendly products, and had to buy them immediately. They're super cheap - and by super cheap, I mean
SUPER cheap. They cost $1.95 for a package of 10. Once I purchased these I stopped suffering from guilt every time I had to use a plastic bag to protect delicate produce. Now I can bag whatever I want, and remain guilt-free. According to
Environment Canada, we Canadians lug home 44 million plastic bags a year. Oh, and each one of these bags takes over 400 years to break down. You'll also notice that they've caused a huge litter problem - at least here in Toronto they have. So, is there really a better excuse to fall off your wallet and fork over the tiny sum for these mesh bags? If you aren't close to a Grassroots store,
just click here to order them on their website. Take a second to browse around the site as they carry some pretty cool products at fairly reasonable prices. If you have trouble remembering to bring your mesh or cloth bags with you when you go shopping, try writing it down on your grocery list to help you remember. To help me remember to bring my mesh bags with me when I go to the store, I keep them inside my cloth bags. They're always in there ready for my next shopping trip. Have loads of old plastic grocery bags you don't know how to get rid of?
