Hearty subs are a satisfying supper or lunch. On their own, the saucy meatballs are also delicious over pasta, rice or mashed potatoes.

Method

Meatballs: In bowl, beat egg; mix in onion, garlic, bread crumbs, cheese, basil, oregano, salt and pepper; mix in turkey. Shape into 16 balls. Bake on greased baking sheet in 400°F (200°C) oven until firm, 10 to 15 minutes. Transfer to slow cooker.

Meanwhile, in skillet, heat oil over medium heat; cook onion, basil, oregano, salt and pepper until onion is softened, 5 minutes. Add to slow cooker along with tomatoes.

Cover and cook on low until bubbly, about 4 hours.

Stir in parsley. Divide meatballs among buns; spoon sauce over meatballs. Sprinkle with green pepper and cheese.
