Scrub potatoes; slice each almost but not all the way through at 1/4-inch (5 mm) intervals. Insert onion slice into each slit.Place each potato on square of heavy-duty foil. Drizzle with oil; sprinkle with rosemary, salt and pepper. Fold foil over and seal to form packet.
Place on grill over medium heat. Close lid and cook, turning occasionally, until tender, about 1 hour.
