Make popcorn the old-fashioned way
In large saucepan, heat 2 tbsp (25 mL) vegetable oil over medium heat; add 1/3 cup (75 mL) popcorn kernels.
Cover, leaving lid slightly ajar so steam can escape. Cook, shaking pot occasionally, until popping slows.
Transfer to large bowl; toss with 2 tbsp (25 mL) butter, melted, if desired, and 1/4 tsp (1 mL) salt, or try one of our toppings below. Makes about 8 cups (2 L) popcorn.
Garlic butter and cheese topper:
Toss 8 cups (2 L)popcorn with 1/4 cup (50 mL) finely grated Parmesan cheese; 2 tbsp (25 mL) butter, melted; 1/4 tsp (1 mL) garlic powder; pinch salt.
Sugar and spice topper:
Toss 8 cups (2 L) popcorn with 2 tbsp (25 mL) granulated sugar; 2 tbsp (25 mL) butter, melted; 1/2 tsp (2 mL) cinnamon; pinch salt.
