Chef Martin Picard's unforgettable meal at the 2014 Cayman Cookout

While I was in Cayman last week, I had dinner with a lucky Canadian Living reader, Grace McConnachie (second from left), who won tickets to the Cookout through the contest we held last summer; her boyfriend, Jason Ngo (second from right); and Paul Minich (far right), the Country Manager for the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism. Winners of Cayman Cookout contest Our dinner was held at Abacus restaurant in Camana Bay and featured guest chef Martin Picard, of Montreal's famous Au Pied de Cochon restaurant and the Food Network's The Wild Chef. Apologies for the terrible photos, but it was late, there were beverages and, frankly? Flash photography doesn't make anyone look good. Martin Picard and Annabelle Waugh We enjoyed a 12-course menu that was served family-style, featuring Picard's famous "duck in a can" which is also served at Au Pied de Cochon. I've eaten at his restaurant before -- trust me when I say it was just as delicious. Martin Picard menu duck in a can The blurry highlights included being hand fed caviar-topped bone marrow on toast by a complete stranger, someone kissing and then carving up a roasted pig's head and, finally, doing shots of maple-cotton-candy-garnished absinthe as a palate cleanser halfway through the meal. Absinthe tasting It's a meal I'll never forget (but also won't entirely remember).
